Web Design Handbook « Graphics
Graphics are created either 100% in a graphics program, or source images and fonts are used with layering and effects added to create a final product.
- Word art
Word Art is basicly taking words and making them into word art by adding graphics and
graphic effects. A logo is a good example of word art. Menu buttons are another example.
- Photos
Photos are normally handled in everyday jpeg file format. This is the format
used by digital cameras; the difference between the raw image from the camera is it
should be resized to fit onto a web page (between 1/6 and 1/3 the resolution of the raw
image).
- Graphic effects
There are a large number of graphic programs all of which has effects that can
be added to a image or wordart. Normally multible graphic effects are done to the graphic,
reflections and shadows are layered, multible images are clipped and layered into the same
graphic.
- Animation effects
Animation can be done with a graphic file format such as GIF, higher quality animated
images are possible in an emerging graphic file format know as APNG (Animated PNG) PNG allow
for 24K colors, as does jpeg, and use a loseless compression.
