It is beyond the scope of this page and site to completely cover graphic effects. Not much more than just scratching the surface will actually be done. Graphic effects are part of nearly all programs that can edit graphics, by themselves they are fairly boring -- only when they are combined or layered artistically do they begin to become interesting. Case in point, emboss only becomes interesting when layered with other graphics.

I am making a distiction between graphic effects and animation. However, in casual converstation animation is consided a graphic effect.
